Meet Deepti Garg
City Commissioner. Mother. Leader with a proven track record.
For over 14 years, Deepti Garg has proudly called Union City home. With her husband, Sumit, she has raised her two daughters here and cares for her in-laws in a multigenerational household.
Both of Deepti's daughters chose to attend James Logan High School, where one is a senior and the other graduated and currently studies mathematics at UC Berkeley. Go Colts!
Deeply committed to building a stronger community, Deepti is a dedicated public servant and joined the Union City Human Relations Commission in 2022. Today, she serves as the Commission's Chair and has led numerous projects to support and connect with residents directly. She established the utility-box cultural mural program, advocating for it through the Human Relations Commission, Parks and Recreation, Arts and Culture, and the City Council. Deepti also secured the approval and funding for a Peace Pole that will be installed in Old Alvarado Park this year.
To connect the city with residents and the local community, Deepti led the charge to move the commission’s work out from behind the desk and into in-person community site visits. She also serves on Union City’s Climate Action Plan Committee since August 2025.

Deepti is a cybersecurity program manager at a Fortune 500 company, where she manages multimillion-dollar budgets, vendor and compliance work, and complex technical programs. She holds the CISSP, PMP and CSM credentials, a master’s degree in microelectronics from Panjab University, and a bachelor’s degree in electrical and electronics engineering. Before her technology career she lectured engineering students in India and worked three years as a substitute teacher in San Mateo–Foster City schools, frequently requested back by the teachers she covered.
Above all, Deepti is truly committed to community service. She sits on the organizing committee for the eight-day Garba celebration at Contempo Park and she organized neighbors to help an eleven-member Union City family burned out of their home. She has been an active volunteer for the county’s Point-in-Time homeless count, led food and neighborhood cleanup drives, and often spends time engaged with school activities or helping elderly community members.
