NEW HAVEN UNIFIED

  • Academic Opportunity
  • Budget and Fiscal Responsibility
  • Stronger Schools
  • Transparency
  • Campus Safety

Academic Opportunity

Every student deserves the opportunity to thrive at NHUSD. Deepti believes that our public schools should continue to expand academic opportunity and invest in the long-term success of our students. That's why she supports measures to keep and recruit excellent teachers, increase academic programming, and push for a rigorous and comprehensive curriculum at all of our schools.

Budget and Fiscal Responsibility

Deepti has an extensive professional background in financial strategy and managing multimillion dollar budgets. On School Board, every budgetary decision she makes will be to protect the district's 3% reserve, put our schools first, and ensure that the district is held accountable to the public.

Deepti will push for transparency in how the district spends taxpayer dollars and work to publish Measure N’s $272 million on a project-by-project public dashboard.

Stronger Schools

Deepti knows that stronger schools build stronger neighborhoods, protect our tax dollars, and increase property values. On School Board, she's going to make sure our district is investing in the right resources and programs to strengthen our schools, keep competitive teacher salaries, and boost the curriculum at every campus. She also supports methods to responsibly limiting class sizes to ensure our students have the best quality education possible.

Transparency

As a longtime leader in the New Haven Unified community, Deepti understands the issues that our community cares about. She will fight to make our district more transparent by publishing class sizes of every school, every grade and every subject, every year. Further, Deepti will work to implement financial transparency by publishing district spending to the public and fighting against irresponsible use of district resources.

Campus Safety

Deepti is a mother to two daughters she raised in Union City and who attended NHUSD schools. She values campus safety and strives to create a school district where parents can send their kids to school with peace of mind and students, teachers, and faculty feel secure on campus. On School Board, Deepti will finish the job on the safety systems the district already funded, so they fulfill their purpose and protect our schools.
